Eggs On Toast air fryer recipe

Quick and easy classic English breakfast consisting of a single slice of bread with two medium size eggs, which are cooked directly on top of the toast.

Eggs on toast made in the air fryer involves air frying two eggs on top of a slice of bread, which you must create a deep imprint with use of a drinking glass or ramekin, so the eggs can be contained in this dip. Air fry for 6 minutes at a temperature of 400°F / 205°C, with no turning over necessary.

While a full breakfast isn't the easiest dish to make in an air fryer, eggs on toast certainly is, which consists of two ingredients only.

How eggs on toast are air fried significantly different to making eggs on toast in both toaster/grill and a frying pan - of which this recipe calls for the eggs to be cooked directly on top of the bread - which will turn to toast in under 6 minutes.

Continue to air fry eggs until translucent whites turn white, even if you have to add additional minutes.

Eggs will bake into the toast with any exposed bread turning brown around the edges, which will produce a crispy, brittle-like texture.

With the eggs air frying on top of the bread slice, there's no way to turn the toast over halfway, which isn't needed anyway.

Whilst the air fried toast will turn brown around the edges of the eggs on top, the toast on the underside will crisp up, but it could remain pale.

Eggs are expected air fried in the 6 minutes with the whites set fully and the yolk nice and runny. First you will want to crack two eggs into a ramekin/glass to give you a chance of picking out egg shell - where the eggs will then be poured into the imprint on the bread.

About the ingredients

Can't be easier and cheaper to make this eggs on toast recipe in the air fryer, which consists of a single slice of bread and two eggs.

Medium Eggs

Simple medium eggs were used to make eggs on toast in the air fryer, with emphasis on medium-size eggs.

You will want to make this eggs on toast recipe with small to medium eggs, which will ensure two cracked eggs with fit together on a single slice of bread - where eggs will be contained inside a deep imprint in the bread - made with the bottom of a ramekin/glass.

Thick-Cut White Slice Bread

On this occasion, I used a single slice of TESCO Finest Sunflower & Pumpkin Loaf, which was a medium cut slice, and thick enough to make a deep imprint.

Slice of bread should be thick enough to make a deep imprint, which should hold two raw eggs. Adding ingredients in this bread consisted of Sunflower and Pumpkin Seeds - which adding a lovely nutty flavour and texture.

Serving Suggestions

What do you normally have eggs on toast with when made in the frying pan and toaster... well, it isn't a lot is it.

Dipping sauce is an option with tomato ketchup being a good one, so too would be HP or Daddies brown sauce.

You could think about air frying an additional slice of bread next to the eggs on toast, which can be used to pop on top of the eggs-slice to make a convenient air fried breakfast sandwich - with ketchup/brown sauce add for slippage juice.

In addition, fried tomato and/or mushrooms can be piled on top of the eggs on toast, or pressed in between two slices of bread to make into a sarnie.

Recipe PROS & CONS

Air frying eggs on toast has its benefits in that the eggs are baked directly on the toast, with the biggest disadvantage being the egg yolk is usually cooked well done.

PROS:

No need to use the hob along with a frying pan to cook the eggs when the eggs and toast can be air fried as one.

Save on calories and fat content with a little spray oil needed, rather than extra oil frying away in a frying pan. Did I mention less washing up is created, when lining the bottom of the air fryer will save on a mess.

CONS:

Air frying time is set to 6 minutes specifically to cook the eggs until the whites are set. With that, there is a small chance to air fry eggs to a runny yolk. Doneness of the eggs can vary from a medium to well done - although my eggs were runny on this occasion.

You will be air frying these eggs on toast on one side of the bread only, toasted fully with no turning over. Toast will appear white on the underside, which doesn't matter much because the 6 minutes will produce a crispy enough slice of toast.

In Pictures: How to cook Egg On Toast in air fryer

Quick and easy breakfast consists of two eggs air fried directly on toast. Follow the instructions for this recipe in pictures, with the visuals making life a little easier on you.

STEP 1: Preheat air fryer: 5 Minutes

Preheat function set on Cosori air fryer to 5 minutes

Quickly set the air fryer to PREHEAT or manually dial in 5 minutes with a temperature of 400°F/205°C. Preheat air fryer whilst you're preparing the eggs on toast for air frying.

STEP 2: Crack 2 eggs into a ramekin

Eggs cracked into single ceramic ramekin

Crack two eggs into a single ramekin - as its air fryer-safe - with an option to use a small drinking glass if NO ramekin is available to you. Eggs are pre-cracked into a dish like this, so we can pick out shell - whilst replacing a broken egg yolk for a new egg.

STEP 3: Make a 'Dip in the Centre' of bread slice

Bread slice on chopping board, with drinking glass imprint on surface

Press the bottom of a ramekin or drinking glass hard into the bread multiple times to create an imprint, which will accommodate two raw eggs with no risk of spilling over.

STEP 4: Position slice of bread in air fryer

Slice of bread positioned in bare air fryer basket

With the imprint pressed deep into the single slice of bread, go ahead and centre the bread slice in your air fryer.

STEP 5: Pour eggs into dip in bread slice

Raw eggs poured into imprint of slice of bread, sat in air fryer basket

Carefully pour the two raw eggs out of a single ramekin/drinking glass and into the imprint of the bread slice. Pour slowly to avoid eggs spilling over the edge, which can cause the raw eggs to continue to spill all the way out.

STEP 6: Spray top of eggs with cooking oil

Spraying eggs with Sunflower oil, set in bread imprint

Spray a couple of times over the raw eggs with spray oil - I am using Sunflower oil - which will heat up enough to set the egg whites, with an additional top up optional.

STEP 7: Season raw eggs with pepper

Grinding freshly ground pepper on raw eggs

Would be a good time to season the eggs now with freshly ground black pepper, and a little freshly ground salt to enhance the flavour of the eggs on toast.

STEP 8: Air fry at 400°F / 205°C for 6 minutes

Time and temp set on Cosori air fryer

With the raw eggs and uncooked toast sitting in the air fryer, its time to set the time and temp as stated, to air fry until egg whites are fully set white, whilst the toast has turned nice and golden - which will produce an extra crispy bite with a brittle-like texture.

STEP 9: Pull egg toast out of air fryer basket to serve

Cooked eggs on toast in air fryer with crispy golden toast

And here it is, how a single slice of eggs on toast will look once fully cooked. Egg whites are set whilst the yolks remain a little runny. Bread slice has turned golden on top and expected to be pale underneath. Despite that, bottom of toast is nice and crispy.
