How to cook Chorizo in air fryer
Air fryer will make easy work of any Spanish sausages, and while there's usually lack of cooking instructions, following traditional pork sausage cooking directions will do it.
You can cook Chorizo in an air fryer at 400°F / 205°C for 14 minutes; flipping the Chorizo half or whole ring sporadically. Cut small chunks 1 inches minimum to prevent drying out, as well as causing light pieces to float about inside the air fryer. Keep the casing on the Chorizo to produce a bursting of juice bite.
Believe it or not but a Chorizo available in ring form won't have oven cooking instructions, as its assumed you'll be eating it cold.
In which case do use scissors to cut off the casing as it will be horribly chewy if you don't.
If indeed you are air frying the Chorizo, keep the casing on as it will pop as soon as you bite into it, producing a lovely burst of Chorizo juices.
No hard or fast rules for cooking a Chorizo, but do follow a typical pork sausage cooking instructions, to air fry a Chorizo; either in a half or whole ring, and what can be a Chorizo cut in to one inch bite-size chunks.
How long to cook a Chorizo in an air fryer will be approximately 14 minutes for a typical half or whole Chorizo ring.
What temperature should a standard-size Chorizo half or whole ring be air fried at, would be a high of 400°F / 205°C; which is exactly how you would cook a standard pork sausage, which is where you can take the cooking directions from.
PLEASE NOTE: The following air frying instructions are based on a Tesco Finest Spanish Chorizo Ring, weighing 225g - cut in half for a 112g Chorizo. Admittedly, half a Chorizo doesn't picture very well does it?
Preparing 'Chorizo Ring' for air frying
A little preparation will go into readying a Chorizo for air frying, which is how you would cook it for the oven, or for added to the pan. You will cut the Chorizo to how you like it, while not forgetting to remove the metal clip on both ends - including the tied on string - as you don't want to air fry either for safety reasons.
Its easy to forget to remove the steel clips on either end of a Chorizo ring, and so is the string which must be removed, or it risks burning as the Chorizo cooks.
How to cook Chorizo in air fryer
What is essentially a typical Spanish dry cured pork sausage, a Chorizo wouldn't have oven cooking instructions as its normally eaten cold. Of which you will remove the casing before eating. You will be safely air frying the Chorizo on this occasion, which will cook similar in terms of temperature and timing, to a traditional pork sausage.
Air frying the Chorizo half-ring on this day recorded an internal temperature of 160°F / 72°C, which is exactly where the safe zone is for safely cooking a pork sausage.
How long to air fry Chorizo will vary
On this day I cooked half of a Chorizo ring weighing approximately 112 grams, but bear in mind this will very vastly for you.
I feel a high temperature of 400°F / 205°C would be a good start for us all, regardless of the size and weight of the Chorizo ring.
In addition, if you wish to air fry a 'cut in to small chunks Chorizo,' do so with pieces cut in to approximately 1 inch minimum; in an effort to prevent the chunks being thrown around in the intense windy chamber of an air fryer.
How long you will cook these small pieces compared to a full size Chorizo ring, can vary, but I would still aim for 14 minutes.
You can't go wrong checking on the Chorizo in half a ring, full ring or in small chunks sporadically, to prevent them burning or drying out.
Always flip the Chorizo chunks or half-ring over as regularly as you can, because then you will ensure there's no risk of it stick to either the basket or any paper lining.
Summary
Treat air frying a standard size Chorizo ring as a traditional pork sausage, as the cooking time and temperature will practically be the same.
Without knowing actually how long to air fry a Chorizo at what temperature - as it was my first time - I simply copied the cooking instructions of a standard pork sausage.
To be honest, it couldn't of worked out better, as the pork sausage 400°F / 205°C temperature, along with 14 minutes of oven/grill/broiler cooking time translated to air frying the Chorizo half-wing to the perfect texture.
Internal temperature of this fully air fried Chorizo yield 160°F / 72°C, which is exactly where a pork sausage should be.
So there you have it, it only takes a high temperature with a safe but not too long 14 minutes to cook a Chorizo, with the results rendering a super juicy centre - along with a casing that burst open when bitten in to.
Its entirely up to you how to air fry your cut of Chorizo, while bearing in mind, a small cut of Chorizo will need weighing down with a heavy steel knife for example; and will need to be grouped together to prevent them floating inside the air fryer.
