How to Reheat Jacket Potatoes in air fryer
For the times when too many baked potatoes were cooked, or you need to reheat a jacket potato for getting home late, here is the solution.
Reheat a jacket potato in an air fryer at a medium temperature of 355°F / 180°C, for a full cooking time of 18 minutes, for a potato weighing up to 320g. You will need to slice the potato if it isn't already pre-cut, then proceed to sit the spud at room temperature. No need to turn over or touch for reheating time.
On the occasion when a leftover jacket potato needs to be properly reheated, you will begin by letting it come up to room temperature, if it was previously refrigerated.
If the potato is already at room temperature due to not be placed in the fridge yet, and where it was recently air fried, oven baked or barbequed - of course, then there's no need to let the spud sit out of the fridge for 20 to 30 minutes.
Before the jacket potato is allowed to stand out of the fridge, go ahead and slice it open on the top, which will warm the potato interior faster.
Jacket potato could be cut open prior to be reheated, because it was probably ready to be eaten at the time, but for whatever reason, it wasn't.
Simply reheat the jacket potato in the air fryer with any cuts over the potato, but if its cut in half - close the potato into a single spud - so any exposed soft centre potato is hidden from direct heat.
Skipping this stage won't be the end of the world, but reheating a jacket potato which is freezing all the way through, will need additional cooking time to account for air frying through a chilly potato.
Sit the jacket potato on parchment paper which must be cut to size - as access paper will risk catching fire - while centring the potato on top.
Go ahead and air fry your cold jacket potato at a medium heat of 355°F/180°C, and the time set to 18 minutes. Potatoes weighing up to 320g should all safely reheat for 18 minutes - with an option to reduce the time by 2-3 minutes for smaller jacket potatoes.
Air frying time should see the previously cooked jacket potato maintain the texture of its skin, whilst the soft potato centre should be piping hot.
You should poke the centre of the spud at the end of the cooking time to be sure the steel knife is piping hot itself.
Preparation
With your cold leftover jacket potato ready to be prepared, be sure to rejoin a cut in half potato. If the potato centre is fully exposed, you can think about wrapping the potato in loose foil, in an effort to maintain the quality and texture as before.
- STEP 1: Cut open Potato in Crises-Cross pattern - If your potato is uncut, partially cut it open to help introduce warmth to the interior
- STEP 2: Sit at room temperature: 20-30 Minutes - With the potato cut open now or previously, let it stand at room temperature if it was taken out of the fridge
- STEP 3: Preheat air fryer: 5 Minutes - Get the air fryer hot because the following instructions apply to a preheated air fryer
- STEP 4: Place Jacket Potato in air fryer - With the air fryer preheated, centre the jacket potato on parchment paper, with any open cuts in the potato facing up
NOTE: If you plan to reheat a jacket potato which may be full of toppings like bacon, it would be wise to remove as much as you can, and return the extra toppings to the jacket for the final 5-6 minutes of air frying time.
Reheat in air fryer directions
How your jacket potato should look once positioned inside your air fryer, should be placed on a sheet of parchment paper. Partially cut or openings in the potato will be facing up, with an option to loosely wrap the potato in foil if the jacket is cut to shreds.
- STEP 1: Set temp to 355°F / 180°C; time to 18 Minutes - Safe medium heat for reheated food in air fryer, with a 18 minute air fry time for medium to large spuds
- STEP 2: Air fry untouched until time - NO need to turn over the jacket potato so the spud can be allowed to cook for the whole time, undisturbed
- STEP 3: Decanter Potato; Mash butter into soft centre - Mash butter into the potato only when its been taken out of the air fryer
- STEP 4: Serve with your favourite topping - Pile on grated cheese or your favourite ingredients. Remember to reheat toppings that were taken off the potato, prior to reheating - and reheat for the final 5-6 minutes
NOTE: Poke knife into the centre of the potato to ensure the hopefully soft potato is piping hot. If the potato skin isn't crispy enough for you, continue to air fry for an additional 5-6 minutes - with no guarantee the potato skin will actually turn crispy.
Summarise
Air fry a jacket potato knowing you can't really go wrong, although it can be difficult if previously cooked jacket potato is full of toppings, and may be partially cut open.
No problem, simply remove as much extra ingredients as you can, ready to be reheated along with the jacket potato, for the final 5-6 minutes of the full 18 minutes reheating time for the jacket potato.
Temperature will be set to a medium of 355°F/180°C - which is usually the case when reheating food in an air frying - and the full cooking time will be 18 minutes.
Settings apply to a single large jacket potato weighing approximately 320g, with a potato a little smaller or larger, usually reheated in the 18 minute timeframe.
If you reheat two or more jacket potatoes at a time, the time could extend to 20-24 minutes.
Only way to tell is to poke the potato with a knife, to check to see if the steel is piping hot.
Cooking instructions are based on a 5 minute preheated air fryer, of which a cold start would effect the cooking time.
