How to Reheat Pork Sausage Rolls in air fryer
One food item I reheat most in my air fryer are popular store-bought pastries, with a pork sausage roll guaranteed to be reheated at least once a week.
Reheating sausage rolls you bought home in-store or at a local bakery, will require a temperature of 340°F / 170°C with a 14 minute air frying time. I believe this temp and time is enough to probably cook all store-bought sausage rolls in any size, and will bring the internal temperature above a safe 145°F/62°C.
With food makers providing little in the way of air fryer cooking instructions, I've focused my attention on providing instructions for air frying all commonly available sausage rolls.
While each store-bought sausage roll can be set to the same temperature and time, I've put together a list to set temp/time to an acceptable setting per sausage roll.
Don't feel panicked reheating sausage rolls in an air fryer in which you recently bought in-store or at a local bakery in town; all size sausage rolls will need a low to mid temperature, along with a 12-14 minute air frying time.
You want to aim for a safe internal temperature, of which 14 minutes will guarantee this; and yet 12 minutes of reheating my own sausage rolls would of still reached a safe temp.
How to reheat sausage rolls in any type of air fryer would involve placing each roll side by side - with no touching of the sausage rolls if reheating more than one - as it will lead to uncooked spots on the sausage roll puff pasty or shortcrust pastry casing.
You can use lining like parchment paper or foil if you like in an effort to keep your basket clean - with an already baked sausage roll unlikely to stick anyway. I will encourage you to line the basket when air frying frozen sausage rolls, as they're sure to stick. An example of that is cooking Gregg's frozen sausage rolls or similar brands like Birdseye.
Reheating sausage rolls in an air fryer is in reference to cooking any store-bought sausage roll; I aren't cooking from raw as these featured sausage rolls are ready to eat.
I have a lot of experience reheating pastries in my air fryer, among them reheating what are similar pasties where I have a comprehensive pasty reheating guide available.

Information is available to help you identify which sausage roll you wish to reheat, which will hopefully be found on the chart list for following instructions to reheat.
Mostly all available sausage rolls you can buy across the UK are listed here, providing you a comprehensive guide for reheating sausage rolls in an air fryer.
Follow the directions to reheat any commonly available sausage rolls from major brands, sold at supermarkets and local stores nationwide.
Air fryer reheating instructions should be followed with caution - with an option to add extra time until food is piping hot - which means returning reheated sausage roll to air fryer for a bit longer. Sausage internal temperature must reach 145°F/62°C or above.
NOTE: You can safely reheat a previously frozen sausage roll by matching the weight and size of the sausage roll to one listed above as a reference.
Prepare Sausage Rolls
Prepare your sausage rolls for air frying by removing each one out of its original packaging, ready to be air fried. Preheating is unnecessary but it helps for us all to air fry from the same page - as a minute of cooking time will be lost if the air fryer isn't preheated prior to reheating.
Remove Sausage Rolls out of packaging - Bring your chilled sausage rolls up to room temperature a little by removing each roll out of the packaging
Preheat air fryer to 5 mins. - Optional step but to preheat the air fryer for 5 minutes maximum, there's little chance the sausage rolls will undercook
Add to air fryer - When air frying more than one sausage roll at a time, allow for spacing between each roll to prevent raw spots
Close basket to set temp and temp. - Nothing else to do now other than closing the air fryer basket so you can set the temperature and time
Little goes in to reheating ready baked sausage rolls you bought in-store, to be air fried at home. I would advise you to at least shake off any loose flakes of pastry in an effort to keep your basket clear of crumbs.
Reheat Sausage Rolls in air fryer directions
With the air fryer ready to reheat your sausage rolls, set the temperature to a mid 340°F / 170°C, with the time set to 14 minutes. I've found a 120g-130g sausage roll will cook to a flaky texture on this setting, with little change in pastry colour.
Set temp to 340°F / 170°C; time to 14 mins. - What the temperature and time should be set too, in order to properly cook any size sausage roll
Air fry undisturbed for 7 mins. - Cook sausage rolls for 7 minutes undisturbed, with no need to open the basket while air frying
Flip sausage rolls over half way - Half way mark is 7 minutes exactly, where you should turn the sausage rolls over by hand
Reheat for final 7 mins. - Close the air fryer basket and continue to cook for the remaining 7 minutes left on the timer
Do NOT follow exact oven-cooking instructions as detailed on the back of the packaging; doing so will only lead to burning the pastry on your particular sausage roll.
Reheat to retain pastry colour
I like to take note of the colour of the pastry wrapped around the sausage rolls so I can ensure the puffy pastry gets crispy but not any darker.
In an effort to reheat any sausage roll you have in your persecution - it of course doesn't have to be listed on my reheating chart - do so in an effort to retain the original colour of the pastry, because that is where the flavour is.
Changing the colour of the sausage pastry - whether its puff pasty or shortcrust pastry - would mean you've potentially burnt the pastry.
You can reheat sausage rolls until they're a little more golden, which is hard to avoid in most cases, just don't change the colour to a brown because it will taste burnt.
Going the extra mile to ensure the pasty retains its colour will ensure you've done a good job at reheating.
Aim to reheat any sausage roll so the pastry will go extra crispy in texture, rather than darker in colour. If the sausage roll is drastically changing colour, this can be stopped by wrapping it in foil paper - too give you a few more minutes of cooking time.
Properly reheat pork through
If you don't have a food thermometer to check the internal temperature of a single sausage roll, simply cut it in half to test the temperature with your finger.
Unfortunately, most of you won't have an internal food thermometer which you can probe your air fried sausage roll with, thus I've taken extra caution. I've provided air fryer reheating instructions which are sure to bring the internal temperature up to a safe level.
Pork internal temperature must reach 145°F/62°C, of which my particular reheated sausage rolls reached approximately 171.6°F/77.6°C on this occasion. Which means I probably could of reheated both sausage rolls for 12 minutes, at a reduced time.
You can ensure your sausage roll is reheated properly by simply cutting it open, while touching the pork centre with your finger or the tip of your tongue.
If that isn't enough and the sausage roll is only warm once you bite into it, its possible to return the sausage roll to the air fryer, to continue to cook for an extra 5 minutes.
Sausage rolls mentioned can be eaten without being cook prior, however I know a cooked sausage roll does taste better, and so is the texture. But do remember, once you begin to cook the rolls, you must follow through all the way until its piping hot.
Summary
Not much goes into properly reheating a sausage roll or more in an air fryer, as you simply follow the oven cooking instructions, while adjusting the time accordingly.
You can copy the temperature for cooking in an oven exactly, with only the time needing to be reduced slightly.
Set the temperature to a mid 340°F / 170°C for any size sausage roll; large or small; mini or freshly made at the bakery - with only 14 minutes needed to reheat to a safe internal temperature. Ensure the sausage roll pork centre is piping hot by touch or using the tip of your tongue - which should tell you if its safe to eat.
Proceed to reheat any sausage roll to the colour the pasty its already baked to.
Reheating a sausage roll can darken the pastry which can change the taste and texture. You will want to change the texture to something light and crispy, while avoid darkening the puff pastry or shortcrust too much, as it will taste burnt.
Its important to air fry all sausage rolls on one side, then flip mid way through reheating to ensure both sides are cook to a crispy texture.
