How to Reheat Sausages in air fryer

Reheating sausages which are normally made out of pork will mean you must be extra cautious, with these instructions outlined providing safe air frying instructions.

Pork sausages can be safely air fried, providing you air fry for a full 12 minutes, which will certainly bring the internal temperature above 165°F/74°C. Reheat sausages wrapped in baking paper, at a medium 355°F/180°C. Temperature will air fry sausages long enough without drying them out in the process.

So you have handful of pork sausages leftover from earlier in the day, or the day before, and you need them heated up to bring them back to their best.

Reheating sausages will make them good again - only there is a risk the sausages will become dry, chewy or too crunchy - if allowed to openly air fry under the heating element; all is true, but that can be eradicated with one feature

To reheat many varieties of plain pork sausages - which come in packs of 6-8 - you must wrap the sausages all together in parchment paper.

Wrapping sausages in a loose parchment paper will help to retain any moisture, which will keep the sausages soft.

Parchment paper-wrapped sausages will starve off the heat crisping up the sausage casing/skin anymore, which will result in a too crunchy sausage if air fried uncovered.

With your pork sausages being reheated - from previously being cooked in the air fryer, the frying pan, oven, under the grill/broil, or BBQ - they may not last with more cooking time, which is why they must be protected in a paper wrap.

Sausages which were cut or split open from before, and are now being air fried as part of the group in the wrap, will also avoid drying out whilst wrapped up in a parcel.

Sausage and chips air fried together in basket
Reheating sausages in an air fryer will avoid access fat/crease, which isn't the case here, as the first-time air fried sausages must be kept separate from the chips.

Meanwhile, sausages wrapped in parchment paper, will NOT NEED TURNING, and will cook-through thoroughly with little concerns

Reheated pork sausages are ideal for having a hot bacon sausage sandwich to adding precooked sausages to a reheated meal all together.

Bear in mind, reheated sausages should have little to NO more fat bursting out of them, which is  healthier of course, but ideal for adding to a toad in the hole recipe, for example.

Reheated sausages are great to air frying alongside chips also, with reheated sausages producing NO MORE fat/crease - which means the chips/fries won't be covered in it.

I reheated four plain sausages which were plenty for wrapping in parchment paper, and fitting inside my air fryer basket. If you reheat more then four sausages at anyone time, things will become a little more awkward.

In addition, when reheating a battered sausage for example, the rules outlined still apply - with the opportunity to unravel the parcel for the final 3-4 minutes, to perhaps crisp up what will be soft batter, to a crispy texture just like how it should.

Reheating sausages would normally require you getting them out of your fridge, which means they must be allowed to reach room temperature before air frying. Keep your sausage number to 4-5 links, as it will get difficult the more sausages you reheat.

  • STEP 1: Sit out of fridge if chilled - Give the sausages 20-30 minutes out of the fridge, if they've been chilled before air frying
  • STEP 2: Wrap up to 4 Sausage in Parchment Paper parcel - Wrap sausages in a single layer in parchment paper, providing plenty of give in the parcel to spread the sausages out with space in between each sausage link
  • STEP 3: Preheat air fryer for 5 Minutes - Reheating sausages will require a preheat, as you'll only have 12 minutes to reheat them
  • STEP 4: Position Parcel crease-side down in air fryer - Place the parcel of sausages with the paper crease/fold facing down so the weight of the sausages stops the parcel from unravelling

NOTE: Wrap 4-5 sausages links in a single loose parcel, which should provide enough space in the wrap to spread out the sausages in a single layer.

Carefully position your parcel-wrapped sausages in the air fryer with the folds/crease faced down in the basket, to stop the parcel unravelling as it cooks.

  • STEP 1: Set temp to 355°F / 180°C; time for 12 minutes - Air fryer setting is perfectly calculated for reheating any kind of plain fresh sausages
  • STEP 2: Air fry until full time - With 12 minutes to reheat an inch or so thick sausage, the internal temperature should reach above a safe 165°F/74°C
  • STEP 3: Unravel parcel; cut Sausage to check internal temp - With no internal food thermometer available, simply cut a sausage open to see if its piping hot
  • STEP 4: Pull Sausages out of air fryer basket - And that's it, the sausages should be well reheated with them retaining moisture whilst locked away in the parcel
NOTE: If sausage casing feels a little too soft, air fry uncovered for 3-4 minutes to produce a little crispier skin/casing.

Summary

Reheating sausages for the reason of cooking them alongside chips, bacon or additional food items to make a snack or meal, can be safely done in an air fryer, at a time and temperature that will bring PORK UP TO A SAFE TEMPERATURE.

Air fry pork sausage at 355°F/180°C, for a timeframe of just 12 minutes.

But there's more, while pork sausages can be air fried in the open air, they could become inedible if they harden up any more.

And that is why when reheating regular pork sausages, they should be grouped together and wrapped in a loose parchment paper-wrap.

Wrapping pork sausage in a paper-parcel will ensure you retain the moisture as the sausages cook, giving them a tasty but pleasantly soft texture. If you want a crispier sausage, then air fry them uncovered for the final 3-4 minutes of air frying time.

Parchment paper will appear damp and translucent towards the end of the 12 minutes, which means the parcel has done a good job at locking in the moisture.

No need to add oil to reheat sausages even with a guarantee of no additional crease/fat will burst out of them.
